482 Music is proud to announce the release of Document Chicago: New Jazz and Improvisation, a compilation that celebrates both the new generation of musicians working in the diverse Chicago improvised music scene and the forthcoming Document Chicago Series that means to record them. Document Chicago features 13 original tracks by young musicians working in the Chicago tradition, but building their own sounds with new influences like electronic music and modern rock. "This anthology reveals strong stylistic connections to the players that surfaced during the 90's," writes Chicago Reader columnist Peter Margasak in the disc's liner notes, "but despite certain similarities this music doesn't seek to replicate Chicago's recent past. There's a new dedication to using composition as something more than a launch pad for improvisation—although you'll find improvisation on everything here.
