In different ways we all found our way into the world of the AACM, and from 2009-2011 served on its executive committee: Nicole Mitchell, Chairperson; Mike Reed, Vice Chairperson; Tomeka Reid, Treasurer. In 2015, the year of the organization’s fiftieth anniversary, there’s so much to reflect on, be thankful for, and still learn, about the impact the AACM and its members have had.

We decided to celebrate the history and our love of the AACM by interpreting compositions by some of its members. Of course there are far too many compositions to try and represent the full breadth of the music that has been made by its members, so here is a small but powerful offering.
